Mobile security company AirWatch has unveiled AirWatch Professional, a solution that uses the cloud to help companies more easily secure and manage mobile devices via an intuitive web-based console. AirWatch is also working with TigerText, a provider of secure, real-time messaging, to deliver mobile security and management for healthcare.

Airwatch Professional supports multiple device platforms and provides admins a range of management and security features from a central console, according to AirWatch CEO and president John Marshall. By simplifying mobile security and management, mobile devs are freed up to create powerful apps that offer user-friendly operations while invoking security and management as needed for BYOD and other mobile projects, he added.

“AirWatch Professional . . . recognize[s] the challenges that small businesses face with mobility management,” Marshall said in a statement.

In specific, AirWatch Professional lets SMBs quickly enroll devices in their enterprise environments, configure and update device settings over-the-air, enforce security policies and compliance, secure mobile access to corporate resources, and remotely lock and wipe managed devices, according to company officials.

AirWatch Professional supports
Activate devices through simple enrollment process (SMS or email)
Define company-wide mobile device settings
Set up passcode, email and Wi-Fi profiles
Track GPS location
Find, lock and wipe stolen or lost devices
View device and user information
Monitor all devices 24/7/365

With this approach, AirWatch Professional allows SMB employees to simply click the activation link and enter the provided code to activate their devices. Then they instantly get access to their business emails and Wi-Fi networks, GPS tracking is enabled, and setting a passcode is required, Marshall added.

AirWatch Professional’s central management console lets admins view all the active devices and settings from the console. They can also update user and device information, resend enrollment messages, and remove settings from individual devices. Admins can also find, lock, and wipe devices remotely, as well as deactivate and remove devices at anytime.

AirWatch Professional works with popular devices running Apple iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone and Windows Phone 8.

AirWatch is also teaming up with TigerText, a provider of secure, real-time messaging, on a mobile security solution that lets healthcare organizations secure their mobile platforms as well as text messages and email communications.

As BYOD gains momentum, the risks increase that sensitive corporate data will be leaked outside the organizations, such as via lost devices, insecure SMS or hacking.

The combining the AirWatch/TigerText solution will enable organizations to safely protect important company or health information to enhance communication and workflow across all their devices and platforms in a secure, HIPAA-compliant manner, said Brad Brooks, TigerText Co-Founder and President, in a statement.

TigerText encrypts all communications in transit and authenticates recipients before sending. It also enables employees to archive and audit text messages so they’ll always know when messages have been sent and opened, Brooks added.

AirWatch is leveraging the TigerText fully encrypted, SaaS platform for secure text messaging, which is already used in more than 1,000 healthcare facilities in the US.

Administrative controls offer organizations additional security features such as pin lock, and remote wipe. TigerText’s security features complement the security features offered by AirWatch with its EMM (enterprise mobility management) services, according to AirWatch’s Marshall.

A TigerText message stays encrypted in transit and at rest. And all the messages have a limited lifespan and are deleted completely from a mobile device when they’re no longer needed. Employees can also securely send and share files, including spreadsheets, images, and PDFs within the TigerText application.

TigerText works on any smartphone, tablet or web-enabled Mac or PC, making it ideal for healthcare organizations where nurses may work on desktop PCs, while doctors are mobile.

Community Hospice of Texas is using a combination, where the TigerTextPRO application is fully integrated with AirWatch’s EMM platform. The combination has “improved mobile functionality, security and utility in our day-to-day workflow,” and supported end-to-end HIPAA compliance, said David Swart, Director of IT at Community Hospice of Texas, in a statement.
