Message Received As Startups Target Enterprise Communications

Consumer messaging companies are red hot. So hot that Facebook recently agreed to pay $19 billion in cash and stock for mobile messaging darling WhatsApp.

Now the fever is spreading to the enterprise, affiliate magazine Venture Capital Journal reports.

As smartphones and tablets invade the corporate world, employees are starting to embrace business-oriented texting apps that make inter-office communications easier, simpler and, yes, cooler.

“Consumers have gotten in the habit of using texting in their personal lives,” said Sean Flynn, a partner at Shasta Ventures. “So it’s no big surprise that they are starting to text in the context of work…”
